Where EDIT is headed

Editas in mid-2027 looks like a science project running out of road. The reni-cel sickle cell program was effectively shelved in late 2024 when management pivoted away from ex-vivo, conceding the commercial economics to Vertex and CRISPR Therapeutics' Casgevy. That left EDIT-401, an in-vivo LDL receptor upregulation play, as the entire story. The problem is that Verve Therapeutics (now inside Eli Lilly after the 2025 acquisition) is two clinical years ahead with VERVE-102 in HeFH and ASCVD, backed by Lilly's cardiovascular sales muscle. Editas is bringing a second LDL-lowering gene therapy to a market where the first one will be commercialized by the company that owns Mounjaro.
